Martin Kallen: the applause for Gdańsk

Gdańsk was the first city, that was visited by UEFA EURO 2012 organizational director, Martin Kallen, during his 4 days’ visit in Poland. He was really impressed by the progress of preparations in our city.

Kallen was accompanied by the representatives of EURO 2012 Poland venture – president Adam Olkowicz and Jakub Mazek. Together, they visited a construction site of the new passenger terminal on Gdańsk airport and they watched a presentation showing the next stage of works on the airport. They also met with a Vice President of Gdańsk, Andrzej Bojanowski.

It is worth to remind, that apart from terminal, the new taxiway and parking places are constructed. All these investments allow to serve 30 operations (starts and landings) per hour, which is very crucial in the context of Gdańsk efforts to organize Euro 2012 quarter-final.  A big traffic on the construction site proved that all the works are being performed and that Gdańsk will be on time.
The other visited place was the construction site of stadium. Although it is constructed so quickly, the guest from Switzerland was not impressed by this fact. The reason - “There is a special screen in my office connected with cameras showing the construction sites of all stadiums, that is why I know the progress of construction of Gdańsk arena and I am aware that it grows like mushrooms after a rain shower” – was joking Martin Kallen.
During a press briefing, Kallen said that UEFA is determined to have Euro 2012 matches played on four stadiums in Poland and on four in Ukraine. “It is a common project of two countries. We are the partners and we keep our fingers crossed for Ukraine in a more difficult period” – added Adam Olkowicz.
After the evening spent in Gdańsk, the guests went to the other city on the way of their visit – Warsaw.
